Meridian Room

Café — the meridian hour

The day is
measured at
the counter.

A counter, a room, and the hours in between. Meridian Room is a café run from one long surface — coffee made in front of you, a room you are welcome to sit in longer than you planned.

How the room works

The counter first
Everything is arranged around one long surface. Order at it, wait at it, stay at it if the seats have gone.
One room, many hours
Early quiet, a loud middle, a long tail of afternoon. The room is built to hold all three without redecorating itself.
Nothing precious
Careful coffee, plainly served. No ceremony you did not ask for, no vocabulary you need to learn first.
Interior detail of a café: plaster wall, oxidised metal panel and a timber counter edge in raking daylight.

A room with a long middle.

Plaster, timber, oxidised metal, and enough light to read by. The plan is deliberately plain so the counter, the noise and whoever happens to be in that day supply the character.
